Wiscasset hired Perry Hatch to perform the duties of School Resource Officer, beginning Monday, May 2, at 7 a.m., according to interim chief Jerry Hinton. The job offer was only finalized on Friday, April 29.

Hatch had previously served as SRO for Wiscasset. He resigned in June of 2015, after being denied time off. Hinton did not see that as an issue going forward, after a change in administration. “If he has time off coming, he’ll be able to take it,” he said.  Prior to his resignation, he had been with the Wiscasset Police Department for four years, and had been with the Maine State Police for 25 years.

Hinton said that Hatch would serve in Wiscasset Middle High School, as well as in Wiscasset Elementary School. When school is not in session, Hatch will have patrol duties.

“He is excited about returning, and we’re happy to have him back,” Hinton said. He said he had informed the school superintendent several days ago that Hatch would be returning.

Hatch will replace Thomas Hoepner, who resigned in March after less than a year on the job.
