12th Bands for Books is in the books
The major annual fundraising event for the Friends of the Wiscasset Public Library was held on Sept. 7.
This was the 12th Bands for Books, and it exceeded expectations. The members of the Fundraising Committee of the Friends of the Wiscasset Public Library began planning in the early winter months of this year and their diligence and hard work were evident. Party-goers filled Lakehurst Lodge for an evening of music by the Salty Dogs, appetizers, and a silent auction. The dance floor was crowded throughout the evening.
Last year, the Friends donated in excess of $16,000 to the Library to assist with expenses and necessary repairs. This consisted of help with operating expenses, including the Summer Reading Program, Adult Programs, Young Adult Programs, copier fees and the Inter-Library Loan System. This system provides access to all Maine libraries. The Friends were able to do all this with proceeds from the Bands for Books event.
We are most grateful to those who attended our event. We cannot overlook our faithful sponsors who respond to our fundraising requests. Finally, our thanks to the volunteers who helped out in so many ways prior to the event and that evening. We are so incredibly grateful.
