Agnes V. Eckert

Agnes V. Eckert, 84, of Alna died Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth.

  She was born in Huntington, Long Island, N.Y. on July 8, 1928, a daughter of Herman and Clara (Drummer) Hake.  She attended Long Island schools and in 1948 married Lester C. Eckert.  They owned and operated Ecknor Trucking on Long Island where she was the bookkeeper.  

In 1985 they moved to Maine, living in Whitefield and Alna. On September 1, 1999 she was predeceased by her husband Lester C. Eckert Sr. and she moved to Wiscasset then to Brunswick. In 2012 she moved to Alna to live with her daughter, Pamela C. George.  

She was an avid bowler and could be found every Friday bowling on a league in Brunswick for many years.  She enjoyed sewing, knitting, puzzles, gardening, cooking and especially spending time with her family.

She was predeceased by her husband, two brothers, Joseph Hake and William Hake, three sisters, Anna Hocker, Rose Sullivan and Claire Bellamore, and close friend, Samuel C. Norbeck.

She is survived by two daughters, Victoria M. Drexel of Livermore Falls and Pamela C. George of Alna; two sons, Lester C. Eckert Jr. of Long Island, N.Y. and Lawrence H. Eckert of Woolwich; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a close niece, Joanne Kirshner of Long Island, N.Y.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

At her request there will be no services. Burial will be at Sheepscot Cemetery in the spring.  Memorial contributions may be made to Sedgewood Commons, c/o Activities Fund, 22 Northbrook Dr., Falmouth, ME 04105, or to SolAmor Hospice Foundation, 23 Spring St, Suite C, Scarborough, ME 04074.
