Alan Leslie Keith of Portsmouth, N.H., a former Boothbay Harbor resident, died at his New Hampshire studio home surrounded by his loving family.

He leaves behind three daughters, Laura McDonnell, Allison Keith and Amy Keith; two grandchildren, Abel McDonnell and Isabel Huggins; two sisters, Priscilla MacInnis and Kate Henderson; a brother, Colonel Mark Henderson (Ret.);  and his former wife and dear friend, Margaret Keith.

Alan was born on May 21, 1935 in South Weymouth, Mass. For four years, he served in the United States Coast Guard with partial service on the USCG East Wind.

He attended the Art Student’s League of New York, and devoted his life to his art. Known for his old world, master’s style of painting, to which he added his own iconic flair, he has won numerous awards throughout his artistic career.

Possessed of a keen mind and quick wit, he has shared many a conversation and many a pint with a large circle of friends, and his presence will sorely be missed.

Services will be private.

An open house, in celebration of his life, will be held at his studio, 5 Junkins Avenue, Portsmouth, N.H., from 3-8 p.m., Friday, March 8.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Seacoast Family Food Bank of New Hampshire.
