Alzuma M. Lux

Alzuma “Zumie” Marie Lux, died April 23, 2013 at her daughter Marie Cooper’s home in Edgecomb.

She was born on July 19, 1926 in Bird City, Kan., to the late Albert Lee and Ola Elizabeth (Rogers) Roseborough. On December 1, 1946 she married Melvin Orville Lux Sr. at the home of his parents in Valentine, Neb.

Zumie moved to Alamogordo, N.M., in 1951 with her husband Melvin Lux  where they raised their four children. During her years in Alamogordo, Zumie was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church where she also taught Sunday school. She was a member of the Women’s Club in the 1950s and worked for many years as a volunteer at the Alamogordo Museum of History on White Sands Boulevard.

She also spent many enjoyable hours tending her beautiful flower gardens at her and Melvin’s home in Alamogordo. After Melvin died she lived for some time in California near her daughter, Beverly Parsons, and eventually went to live with her daughter Marie Cooper in Maine.

She is survived by her brother, Emer (and Judy) Roseborough in Denver, Colorado; three daughters, Beverly (Bennett) Parsons of Palm Desert, Calif., Marie Cooper of Edgecomb, and Shirley Lux of Apex, N.C.; one son, Melvin (Judy) Lux of Fond du Lac, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Adam Lux, Doug Arrington, Aaron and Eric Graves, Carlos Colmenero Jr., Jason Colmenero and Amber Colmenero. Zumie is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and friends

Preceding her in death were her loving husband, Melvin Lux; sisters May (Sarah), Ruby, Maxine, Alberta and Lucille; a brother, Samuel; and her grandson, Melvin Jay Lux.

A memorial service will be held in May in Alamogordo, N.M. Internment will be at Monte Vista cemetery in Alamogordo, N.M., next to her husband, Melvin O. Lux.
