Annual lighthouse service to celebrates Earth’s stewardship Sept. 13
The worship service at Pemaquid Point lighthouse held annually by the Second Congregational Church, UCC, of Newcastle will be celebrated Sunday, Sept. 13 at 10:30 a.m., come rain or shine. Weather permitting, the service will again take place outside, beside the lighthouse overlooking the Gulf of Maine. In the event of rain, the service will be held indoors at the Education Center on the premises.
The theme for worship this year will be celebrating God’s gift of Creation and our roles as good and faithful stewards of that gift. The Rev. Ken Dale’s sermon, “The Presence We Bring,” will include some of the wisdom shared in Pope Francis’ recent encyclical on our common home, Earth. Music will be provided by the church’s chancel choir and instruments.
The worship will be followed by the annual church picnic. Burgers, hot dogs and beverages will be provided by the church, and all planning to stay for the meal are encouraged to bring a salad or dessert to share. As with all the church’s activities all are welcomed and community-wide participation.
The fee to enter the park for those attending the service has been waived by the Bristol Parks Department.
