Arthur R. Young, 92, formally of Newton Road, Bath, died Monday, February 18, 2013 at the Hillhouse Assisted Living, Bath.

He was born in Warren on July 4, 1920, the son of Lester and Mattie Young. He attended Morse High School and graduated in 1938. After graduation, Arthur worked for Bath Iron Works as an electrician before entering the Army Air Force during World War II.

Arthur married Frances O. Lemont from Bath on April 18, 1940. He and Frances were married for 72 years and they raised four children together. All their children are living and will be in Southport for a celebration of his life this summer.

Roger Young, who was born while Arthur was at war, is married to JoAnn and living in Port Charlotte, Fla. during the winter and resides at the family cottage in Southport summers. Daughters Gail Cann and husband George of Port Charlotte Fla., Betsy Jordan and husband Rob of Lakewood Ranch, Fla., and Julie Racioppi and husband Nick of Woolwich, all frequent the family residence in Southport and look forward to saying good-bye to him there this summer.

Arthur’s passions were automobiles, boats and planes. In 1950 he moved his family to Gorham, N.H. where he and his friend Bill York opened and operated Berlin Motor Sales in Berlin, N.H. While in New Hampshire, Arthur purchased his own plane to learn to fly. He enjoyed flying in New Hampshire, but still got back to Southport summers to enjoy his boating passion as well.

Arthur sold the automobile business and returned to Maine in 1967 to work as the general manager of Bodwell Motors in Bath until retirement in 1983. Although his move to New Hampshire afforded him to pursue his dream in car sales, his happiness was coming home with his wife to Bath where they both grew up.

Arthur was predeceased by his loving wife, Frances, and brother Lester.

He leaves his sister, Phyllis Ward of Canton, Conn.; sisters-in-law, Pauline Young of Durham, Marjorie Sylvester of Bath, and Ann Harford and husband Rick from Edgecomb; and nephew, Stevan Sylvester of Portland.
