The Bangor Savings Bank Foundation announced March 7 that more than $88,000 in grants to 20 nonprofit organizations across Maine and New Hampshire that are providing critical social and civic services, educational programs, and health and wellness resources to their communities.

Locally, $5,000 was awarded to Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences in East Boothbay.

This grant will be used to support the Keller BLOOM (Bigelow Laboratory Orders of Magnitude) Program which gives students hands-on ocean science research experience. The grant will provide students and teachers with meaningful Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) opportunities. www.bigelow.org
