Bike event registration is open
A biking event aimed at raising money and awareness for environmental and cycling causes still has spaces available.
The first Climate Ride Northeast is slated to begin in Bar Harbor on Sept. 17 and wind its way to Boston by Sept. 21 in a five-day, 320-mile ride to benefit environmental and cycling nonprofits.
Cyclists will ride from Acadia National Park down through Maine and New Hampshire and into Boston, with expected stops for lighthouses and other local features along the way.
The ride is expected to pass through both Damariscotta and Wiscasset. Damariscotta Lake will be a prominent feature of the second day of the ride, as that is where cyclists will spend the second night. Eventually cyclists will travel to Wiscasset and Bath before finishing in Boston, where there will be a celebration at the finish.
Climate Ride cyclists will hear from some of the leaders of the beneficiaries about the latest sustainability issues and cycling advocacy.
Registration for the event is open, and registrants must raise $2,800 in order to participate in the race. Cyclists can use the discount code climateride2015 to receive $25 off their registration fee. To register or for more information, visit www.climateride.org or call 406-552-0708. Donations can also be made.
The goal for the first Northeast Ride is to raise $400,000.
Climate Ride also holds bike-a-thons in Glacier National Park in Montana and Bryce-Zion in Utah. Last year, according to a release, Climate Ride raised $725,000 for more than 100 beneficiaries.
