Original post: Lincoln County Sheriff's officials are investigating a burglary at The Alna Store in Alna. The report came into the Sheriff's Office at 5:40 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 16.
The front door window was smashed and beer and cigarettes appear to have been taken, but it was not yet known if anything else was, Sheriff's Deputy Brian Collamore said at the scene.
The store is a past winner of the Spirit of America award. It hosts market days for local businesses to sell foods and wares, and puts on a Halloween event that draws large turnouts every year.
Mike and Amy Preston have owned the store since November 2004. Since they've owned it, it has never before been broken into, Mike Preston said.
It's the only general store in the town of about 700 people, and a popular eatery as well.
The store was able to open and serve breakfast this morning.
