Bremen Historical presents 'Growing Up at Camp Biscay'
On Sunday, Aug. 24 at 4 p.m. at the Bremen Town Center, 208 Waldoboro Road (Route 32), Mary Bryant Berger will present “Growing Up at Camp Biscay,” a program about her family’s camp on Biscay Pond.
In 1947, Berger’s father, Richard W. Bryant purchased the property and started the popular camp. Boys aged 7 to 16 from all over the country came to experience the glory of a Maine summer and learn swimming and boating skills, outdoor sports such as tennis and soccer, archery, marksmanship, horseback riding, and more. The camp offered healthy, locally produced food, an opportunity for kids to learn important life skills, and good old-fashioned summer fun.
Mary and her sister, Dotty Booher, spent their summers taking part in the activities and helping their parents with the running of the camp on Fogler Road in Bremen. Mary has many entertaining reminiscences of this time, and the program will include a slide presentation of photographs of activities and campers throughout the many years the camp was operating.
This event is sponsored by the Bremen Historical Society and is free and open to the public, with donations most welcome.
