Bremen minister remains free on bail
Stephen Foote, the minister from Bremen accused of trafficking contraband at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset, appeared in Lincoln County Superior Court November 29.
Justice Jeffrey Hjelm allowed Foote, 70, to remain free on $1,000 unsecured bail, as Foote has been since his arrest on November 1. He was charged with Class C trafficking in prison contraband following a monthlong investigation into trafficking of the drug Suboxone at the jail.
Foote is scheduled to appear next in Superior Court on January 31, 2013, at 8:30 a.m.
Foote retired as dean of the Cathedral Church of St. Luke in Portland in 2003 and recently served as “transition priest-in-charge” at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Augusta, according to the Episcopal Diocese of Maine. Foote has been put on administrative leave pending the outcome of the case.
