A brief glimpse
The following video clips of the Boston Marathon were recorded by Boston University student Hilary Ribons on April 15. Ribons is a former Boothbay Register and Wiscasset Newspaper staff reporter.
The first clip is from Kenmore Square at about 3 p.m. "Everyone was still trying to figure out what had happened and cell service was being shut off," Ribons wrote in an email.
The second clip is from further down on Massachusetts Avenue. "I was standing in the middle of the marathon course at about 3:30 pm," Ribons wrote. "They hadn't yet called off the marathon. Everyone was confused and some runners were still trying to complete the race. Helicopters were overhead and runners were finding friends and family and seeking comfort."
Two other former area residents participating in and volunteering at the Boston Marathon were unharmed by the two explosions that went off near the finish line.
