Call to artists
River Arts in Damariscotta invites submissions for its upcoming What’s New? Exhibition. The show explores the idea of “the new,” whether as a subject or as an expression of an artist’s new approach, method, materials or genre. Everything from art made with recycled materials to an adventure into a new medium may be among the submissions. The show marks the first at River Arts’ new home at the old tavern complex on Route 1, next to N.C. Hunt Lumber, and will offer viewers an open house tour of its new, expanded quarters.
“What’s New?” will run from November 23 through December 20. Entries in all media are encouraged, including sculpture, photography, collage and assemblages. All work entered must be for sale. Wall-hung work should not exceed 40 inches in any dimension, and for safety reasons plexiglass should be used for work over 34 inches, excluding pastels.
Juror for the show is artist Martha Miller, a Carina House Monhegan residency award winner, Maine College of Art faculty member, and well-known artist in over two dozen solo and invitational exhibitions in Maine, New Hampshire and California. Miller has pursued an especial love of portraiture since her teens, developing a bold and expressive style and a flair for exciting mixed media. She is a graduate of Maine College of Art. http://marthamiller.com
