Fri, 03/20/2020 - 10:00am

Story Location:
1 Middle Street
Brunswick, ME 04011
United States

Universalist Church of Brunswick on Saturday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Concerts for a Cause series to raise money for Tedford Housing (housing and services for the homeless) and Oasis Free Clinics (free medical and dental services for those who are uninsured and can't afford insurance)

From China to Italy, and all over the U.S., Dirty Cello brings the world a high energy and unique spin on cello playing. Based in San Francisco, the Dirty Cello Duo is comprised of Rebecca Roudman on cello/vocals/fiddle and Jason Eckl on guitar. Roudman is a classical string player by day and rocks out with Dirty Cello by night and has used her improvisation skills to rock out with the likes of Carlos Santana, Isaac Hayes and hip-hop bands like Deltron 3030.

She tackles the band’s varied repertoire with a rock ‘n’ roll sensibility. The band plays every style imaginable and does some fantastic covers (Their rendition of “Purple Haze” is incredible.). Lou Fancher from Oakland Magazine writes, "Dirty Cello’s music is all over the map: funky, carnival, romantic, sexy, tangled, electric, fiercely rhythmic, and textured, and only occasionally classical." And Nick Diamantides from Ashland Daily Tidings described it this way, “When lead guitar is replaced by the sound of hot licks on a cello, blues, rock and bluegrass rise to a new dimension. But what is most spectacular about them is hearing the depth of soul in Roudman’s playing—it goes beyond what most people would expect from the instrument.

Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 at the door; students/children: $5. Available at the church office, Gulf of Maine Books, or online at https://cello.brownpapertickets.com/
