Carrabec sends Wiscasset home, 61-51
Senior guard Colton Scheve scored 32 points and the fourth-seeded Carrabec Cobras held off a late Wiscasset Wolverine run to advance to the Class D South semifinals with a 61-51 quarterfinal win at the Augusta Civic Center Saturday afternoon, Feb. 14.
Scheve was the recipient of several fastbreak passes and his third and fourth quarter total of 16 points answered any Wolverine baskets.
The fifth-seeded Wolverines, despite several unforced errors, stayed in the game in the first half, trailing by only four, 30-26, getting five 3-pointers, two by senior Spencer Smith-Pinkham.
Another small run early in the third quarter had Wiscasset within four points again but Scheve and teammates went on to build a 20-point lead. The Wolverines fought back to bring the score to 45-34 after the quarters.
Junior Julien King went to work for the Wolverines in the final eight minutes, scoring nine of his team-leading 16 points and outrebounding the taller Carrabec players for putback baskets. However, the Cobras always having an answer in Scheve.
Smith-Pinkham added 12 points for the Wolverines, followed by junior Landin Shirey and senior Ben Gapski with seven points each. Junior Teagan Marr had four points, sophomor Kyle Mank scored five and junior Paul Lambert added two.
Senior captain Pete Vicneire added 11 points for the Cobras.
