Chamber of Commerce holds annual meeting, awards banquet

The Wiscasset Chamber of Commerce celebrated its second year anniversary February 7 at a historic building on Fort Hill, now owned by Maureen and James Barrett of Westport Island. The couple renovated the building to the beautiful state it is in today.
The second annual meeting of the Chamber included a dinner served by the Damariscotta River Grill, presentation of awards, a presentation on economic development, and the election of officers.
Members of the community receiving awards included: Al Cohen, the Community Impact Award; Twin City Lock and Key, the Growth and Development award; Charles Huntington, Volunteer of the Year award; and Katherine Martin-Savage, the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Officers elected include: President David Stapp, Vice President Sherri Dunbar, Secretary Nancy Carlton, and Treasurer Kim Andersen. Also there were seven new members elected to the board of directors making it a full board of directors with 19 members.
The Wiscasset Chamber of Commerce was formed in February 2011 and for the past two years the group has been very busy. After becoming a chamber of commerce, they were able to open and staff a Welcome/Information Center; co-host “Alive on the River,” a Thursday night free concert series; establish a scholarship fund; and hold its first annual meeting and awards banquet with well-known attorney F. Lee Bailey as guest speaker.
During the past year, chamber members have sponsored several events, which include Business After Hours, Fourth of July activities, a Harvest Fest, holiday decorating contest, the town’s Christmas celebration, and the “Think Outside the Box” campaign that encouraged people to shop locally.
According to Chamber President David Stapp, the Chamber plans to continue this year with the same events, and add a few more.
