Changing the channel
It is to the point that we tune in cartoons, the Turner Classic Movies channel, flip to a new channel, or shutting off the TV altogether to avoid the myriad of political ads. The amount of Troy Jackson vs. Susan Collins for the U.S. Senate seat ads seems to be the worst – perhaps the worst we’ve ever seen. Those ads must run 100-plus times a day.
I’ve always thought that these ads should just be shown perhaps just 60 days before Election Day but it seems that they have been running since July. Most voters have perhaps made up their minds on who they will be voting for, but there’s always that little bit of negative information that someone finds about a candidate to develop a new ad.
In our house, we usually watch the local channels – 6, 8 and 13 – and sporting events, on which these political ads run constantly.
And my wife usually picks up the mail from the post office and she tells me we are inundated with placards from politicians. I haven’t seen them because she, like others, tosses them into the trash bin at the post office.
I don’t know about you but Nov. 3 can’t come soon enough.
