Charles W. Cottrell died in Boothbay Harbor on April 18, 2013 after a long illness.

Charles was born in Mentor, Ohio to Charles W. and Dorothy Cottrell. He graduated from Mentor High School in 1950 where he met his future wife, Mary Ann Booker. He loved and was very active in sports, participating in football, track and field. He served in the Naval Reserves in the early 1950s.

Charles and Mary Ann were married in 1951. Having an interest in the fire service, early on and for many years he served as a volunteer and then as a professional firefighter for the City of Painesville, Ohio for 15 years. During these years he owned and operated his own construction business.

In 1980 they moved back to Maine where he was employed as a plant manager for Cooke Concrete. He loved to work in the woods and cleared the land on which their retirement home was built in Round Pond. His hobbies were restoring antique tractors and farm equipment. He enjoyed participating in tractor pulls around the state of Maine from which he earned many trophies and ribbons.

Charles and Mary Ann had three children, Douglas of Denver, N.C. Linda of Albion, Calif. and Leslie of Falmouth; and two grandchildren, Charles of Trevett and Sara of Portland.

In 2009 they moved to St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor. Charles was a member of the Congregational Church.

He is predeceased by brother Alan, sister Rosemary Conner and niece Ruth Ann Cottrell.

A private service was held at The Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor on Wednesday, April 24.
