Coastal Rivers welcomes Kyle Amergian as new education director
Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust is thrilled to announce the appointment of Kyle Amergian as its new education director. Amergian will take the helm at Coastal Rivers’ Camp Mummichog summer day camp and lead the organization’s nature education programming in partnership with local schools.
The goal of Coastal Rivers’ nature education programs is to connect people with nature and promote a lifelong love of the outdoors by encouraging individuals to make their own discoveries through hands-on experiences.
"We're very excited to welcome Kyle to the team," said Executive Director Steven Hufnagel. "Out of an outstanding pool of applicants from around the country, Kyle stood out not only for her skills and training, but also for her warm and collaborative approach, as well as her experience working at the interface of land and sea based on close relationships with teachers, fellow educators, and partner organizations. Our education programs for all ages builds connection with the spectacular natural areas and water bodies that surround us, and we're certain that Kyle will strengthen those links in a way that leads to even greater caring for the Damariscotta-Pemaquid region today and in the future."
Amergian brings nearly a decade of outdoor, experiential education and marine science expertise to the role. For the past five years, she managed education programming on Hurricane Island. Her background includes leading and overseeing a variety of summer science programs in both Florida and Maine, as well as extensive engagement with local school systems.
Originally from South Berwick, Maine, Amergian holds a B.S. in marine science from Eckerd College and an M.S. in marine science with a concentration in biological oceanography from the University of South Florida (USF). After completing her graduate studies, she returned to her Maine roots to continue her career in experiential education.
Amergian steps into the role as longtime education lead Sarah Gladu shifts her focus within the organization. Gladu, who expertly built and oversaw Coastal Rivers' nature education programs for many years, will remain with the organization to expand its growing community science initiatives.
