Commission considers ordinance changes
The Wiscasset Historic Preservation Commission on Feb. 15 reviewed parts of the preservation ordinance that relate to how information is supplied to the public, abutters and other interested parties about upcoming certificate of appropriateness reviews.
Wiscasset will soon be charging $25 per application to pay for notifications and paperwork. Currently, information is posted on the town’s website and bulletin board, in the newspapers and via letters to abutters.
The commission would also like to post a waterproof poster at the building or site that is to undergo the changes, inviting anyone interested to come to the meeting.
Former commission member Susan Blagden, recently appointed by selectmen as a consultant to the commission, attended. COA applications were rescheduled for review because one applicant was not prepared and the other was out of town. The commission plans to set a date with Main Street Maine representative Anne Ball for her to come and discuss the program’s benefits with stakeholders including downtown merchants, members of town government, the school committee, historic preservation societies, and other organizations such as the Wiscasset Area Chamber of Commerce and Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission. The commission said it would look at several dates and give the public a chance to hear more about the program.
