Each month, Rising Tide donates a percentage of Wednesday sales to an organization nominated and voted on by its member-owners. October’s Co-op Community Days recipient, New Hope for Women, received a check for $581.53.

Serving people in Sagadahoc, Lincoln, Knox, and Waldo counties, New Hope for Women supports people affected by domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. Their comprehensive support includes a 24-hour helpline, access to safe housing, court advocacy, and educational programs.

Community Prevention Educator Mary Hanley commented: "Rising Tide’s donation makes a tremendous difference, especially during the pandemic. The number and intensity of domestic violence incidences is on the rise as evidenced by a 15-fold increase in the need for shelter nights. Last year we provided 203 shelter nights; this year we provided 3058 nights of safety. On Dec. 1, we’ll kick off a two-week Giving Tuesday fundraising campaign on Facebook. Funds raised will support our sheltering services.”

Rising Tide General Manager Heather Burt remarked, “At Rising Tide we are happy to contribute financially and raise awareness about New Hope for Women’s 24/7 services. We encourage the entire community to follow them Facebook and learn more about ways to engage with their important work.”
