Community surveys on broadband use

Mon, 06/27/2022 - 2:30pm

Dear Editor:

The towns of Dresden, Wiscasset and Woolwich have been working collaboratively on the issue of expanding broadband services in the three towns. To improve the knowledge of current internet use and financial costs to residents, businesses, and property owners, the towns have each posted a community survey, the links to which can be found on the individual town websites, Facebook, and physical copies are available to fill out at the town offices if desired.

The towns all share similar issues with connectivity and affordability particularly in the less densely populated areas of the towns. Currently the towns are working on a request for proposal to send out to firms that provide broadband planning work, to look at the feasibility of the different options for network expansion. The towns encourage all residents, businesses, and property owners to fill out the survey preferably using their home WiFi as there is a speed test at the end of the survey.

For more information, contact the town offices to get in touch with the Dresden or Wiscasset Broadband Committees or the Woolwich Communications Committee.
