Company seeking site inquires with Wiscasset
It didn't divulge the company's name or what the outfit does, but the town manager's report for the Tuesday night, May 6 Wiscasset selectmen's meeting said whoever it is has sought information from the town. Town Manager Dennis Simmons wrote, "While the nature of the business and the company's identity are confidential at this stage, the inquiry appears to be a serious and promising opportunity.
"The town checks many of the boxes for their needs." Simmons said the town has responded to the inquiry with the town's "relevant assets and capabilities. This type of early-stage interest is often part of a competitive site selection process, and confidentiality is important at this stage to maintain a positive relationship with the inquiring party."
No agenda items pertain to the prospect.
But several do involve the local economy. According the agenda and related documents at wiscasset.gov, Sea Basket's (303 Bath Road) new owner seeks a liquor license and a business license; antiques business Ley Lines, 64 Main St., seeks a business license; and Protect Maine's Fishing Heritage Foundation wants Wiscasset to consider a 180-day moratorium on industrial-scale aquaculture development. Simmons noted in his manager's report, there are no known proposals in town for industrial-scale aquaculture.
The meeting is at 6 p.m. at the town office and over Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89949074298?pwd=UllSQTRtd1RqQ1YvSEV5T0l6UWNsQT09
