Debella pleads not guilty in child assault case
A Damariscotta woman pleaded not guilty January 31 to charges that she assaulted and endangered the welfare of her 11-month-old daughter.
Justice Paul Fritzsche arraigned Rebecca E. Debella, 25, on the charges in Lincoln County Superior Court. He amended Debella's bail conditions to let her have contact with the child, now a 1-year-old.
A grand jury indicted Debella on January 15, on a Class C count of assault and a Class D count of endangering the welfare of a child. The indictment alleges the incident took place November 2, 2012, in Damariscotta.
According to a police report, Debella said she tossed the child onto the couch and pushed her with her foot; her ex-boyfriend, Keith Robinson, the child's father, told police Debella threw the child onto the couch and kicked her in the face.
The child was transported to a hospital with a small bruise on her face, the report stated.
Debella remains free on $1,000 cash bail.
