Dresden vehicle-pedestrian accident kills Woolwich woman

    At 5:10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, Lincoln County Communications Center received a report of a pedestrian being struck by a motor vehicle on Middle Road in Dresden. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched. The preliminary investigation shows a 2010 Honda CRV Matthew Larochelle, 44, of Richmond was driving was northbound on Route 127/Middle Road in Dresden. Larochelle was wearing his seatbelt.  

    Approximately a quarter mile south of the Indian Road intersection, Eva Russell-Edmonds, 40, of Woolwich was walking on the roadway. Larochelle was unable to see her walking. Russell-Edmonds was wearing dark clothing. She was fatally struck by the Honda.

    Alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in the accident. Further investigation and reconstruction of the collision are being conducted.  

    The sheriff’s office was helped at the scene by Dresden Fire Department and Wiscasset EMS. Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office is helping with the reconstruction.  

    Middle Road was closed for about three hours. The fire department detoured traffic.

    Deputies were in the area investigating a previous complaint of a pedestrian in the road about four miles away. They had checked the area and failed to locate the person.

    Anyone who witnessed the accident or a pedestrian on Middle Road in Dresden Jan. 22 between 3 p.m. and 5:15 p.m., or picked up a pedestrian, since it is unlikely a person would have covered that distance, is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 882-7332 or BKANE@Lincolnso.me
