DV, VD and MB
Each October, Lisa Kristoff, our arts & entertainment editor and purveyor of everything to do with informing the public about domestic violence (DV) asks me to write an editorial about the scourge of such crimes. I wish to commend her on her diligence on keeping domestic violence/abuse in the limelight through her articles and online, and she knows the subject thoroughly. Years ago, I served on the local Domestic Abuse Prevention Council, learning a lot about domestic violence and how we, as a council, could help combat the problem. We ran a series of articles and helped bring it to the forefront to the surrounding communities through meetings and events. We were proud to receive a certificate of appreciation from the Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence for our work. The certificate, presented by former Governor John Baldacci in 2006 at the Blaine House, still hangs next to Lisa’s desk here at the office.
Another purveyor of bringing reminders to the public is my friend, Munro Dodge, who routinely touts our veterans – past and present – through his letters to the editor. He has already penned a letter for this year’s Veterans Day (VD), Wednesday, Nov. 11 and his work on keeping the East Boothbay memorial in repair each year is to be commended. He has been doing it for decades. Thanks Munro. And as he says, God Bless our veterans.
MB in the headline stands for Milwaukee Brewers. The Major League Baseball season is coming to an end and the Brew Crew, as of this writing on Tuesday, can clinch the World Series with a win tonight in Tampa Bay. Although the Brewers are not a team I routinely follow, I have enjoyed keeping up with their season and post-season dominance. They won the most games during the season, and disposed the Padres and Dodgers to make it to the World Series, and now lead the Rays 3-0.
