Edgecomb man seeks trial in Kennebunk prostitution case
An Edgecomb man charged with an engaging a prostitute has asked for a jury trial, a Biddeford District Court clerk said.
The charge against Thomas F. Powers, 56, stems from an investigation into an alleged prostitution ring at a Zumba fitness studio, Kennebunk police have said.
The investigation, which drew national media attention, led to similar charges against numerous other men and several prostitution charges against Zumba instructor Alexis Wright, 29, of Wells.
Powers' January 23 court appearance was canceled after his lawyer, Gerard Conley, requested the case be transferred to York County Superior Court for trial, a clerk in the district court said January 24.
No trial date or other appearance has been scheduled for Powers, a Superior Court clerk said.
