Efficiency Maine proposes air sealing homes
Efficiency Maine has an incentive program that allows homeowners to get a Home Energy Assessment with $600 of free air sealing. Charlie Huntington, the owner of I&S Insulation, attended the Wiscasset Selectmen’s meeting March 5 and explained the program.
The program allows an energy advisor come to a home and use specialized equipment to assess energy savings measures that can save the homeowner money on their heating bills.
Along with an assessment, homeowners gets six hours of air sealing work. According to Huntington, the air sealing alone will reduce energy consumption. The cost of the home energy assessment is paid for by Efficiency Maine.
Details of the program can be found on Efficiency Maine's website, www.efficiencymaine.com/. Click on “Save at Home.”
Homeowners must contact a participating Efficiency Maine energy advisor or an approved contractor to set up an appointment.
A list of the energy advisers in the area are listed on the Efficiency Maine website.
According to Huntington, when the work is completed the contractor will perform a test to measure the new air flow in the home. The test will determine how energy savings homeowners will get from the improvements.
The project must have a value of $600 to receive the full discount from Efficiency Maine.
Huntington told the selectmen and members of the public present at the meeting not to hesitate in taking advantage of this offer while funds are available.
