Elinor M. Lewis

Elinor M. Lewis, 94, a lifelong resident of Wiscasset, died Sunday, May 5, 2013 at Cove's Edge in Damariscotta.

She was born on June 18, 1918 in Wiscasset, a daughter of George Miller and Florence Bell (Jackson) Sproul.

As a young girl she was employed in Boothbay. On September 6, 1953, she married George Glenwood Lewis.

She was employed at Bath Iron Works during World War II as an engraver. For 38 years she was employed for the Registry of Deeds at the Lincoln County Courthouse and for 12 of those years

she was Deputy of Deeds.

She was a member St. Philips Episcopal Church in Wiscasset, the 1918 Club, the Huntoon Hill Grange for over 70 years, the Maine State Grange, a member of the Rebekah's in Wiscasset, the Lady Amicable Lodge, the Eureka Rebekah's and a member of Tops. Elinor was nominated for the Jefferson

Award.

She was predeceased by her husband George Glenwood Lewis in 2001.

She is survived by one daughter, Janet Fairfield and her husband Gary of Wiscasset; one son, Glenn Lewis of Wiscasset; and two grandchildren, Shaun Fairfield, Kimberly Lincoln and her husband Mark; two great-grandchildren, Kaitlin and Jameson; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2012 at Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High Street, Bath. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, Hodge Street in Wiscasset. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the Church Fellowship Hall.
