An Evening of Jazz For Children’s Programs

Wed, 07/17/2019 - 10:15am

The Boothbay Sea and Science Center (BSSC) and the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library (BHML) invite you to join them and their sponsors at the Bristol Marine Shipyard (aka The Shipyard in Boothbay Harbor) for a magical evening of jazz on Saturday, July 20 from 7 to 10 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.). This fundraising concert will feature one of New York’s premier jazz trumpeter, Marcus Printup of Jazz at Lincoln Center along with his wife Riza Printup on the jazz harp, Kevin Smith on bass, and Henry Conerway III on drums. The proceeds of the event will go to benefit children’s programming at BSSC and BHML.

The Boothbay Sea and Science Center offers summer sailing, boating, and marine science programs to youth ages 5 - 17. Their mission is the advancement of sailing, boating and ocean sciences by minimizing economic and physical obstacles and further to develop independence, self-confidence, teamwork and volunteerism in their participants. BSSC is committed to inspiring individuals to strengthen themselves and their community through the enjoyment of the sea.

The Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library provides multiple opportunities for people of all ages to have access to written, visual, audio, and electronic resources in a welcoming, learning environment. Its trustees are committed also to the preservation of this historic landmark of the Boothbay Region.

The Concert Committee — Kate Horgan, Barbara Scorcia, Deezie Flower, Joanna Breen, Penny Pollard, Hillary Friedman, Joe Gelarden, Barb House, Sharon Pulkkinen, and Pauline Dion — are working tirelessly to make this a most unforgettable evening. There will be light hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, coffee, and dessert.

Among the event sponsors are Bob and Kate Horgan, Nathaniel S. Wilson Sailmaker, J. Edward Knight & Co., Knickerbocker Group, Wayne Closson Landscaping, and several anonymous donors.

Ticket holders may also attend a tour of the Shipyard at 6 p.m. The tour and talk will feature the Schooner Ernestina-Morrissey, which is currently undergoing restoration at the Shipyard.
