Fatal house fire on Crummett Mountain Road
A farmhouse fire in on Crummett Mountain Road in Somerville has reportedly claimed the life of 92-year-old homeowner Cecil Brann, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland.
The fire was called in by a neighbor at approximately 3:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 24.
The residence was fully engulfed when fire departments from Somerville, Whitefield, Jefferson and Windsor arrived on the scene, according to Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency Director Todd Hartung.
According to McCausland, the State Fire Marshal’s Office said a body was recovered at approximately 9 p.m., Thursday night and investigators think the body is that of Brann, who lived alone.
With the wind and cold the pumps were freezing up, causing it to be a very tough fire to fight, said Hartung.
According to a press release, the State Medical Examiner’s Office is slated to exam the body January 25.
“The freezing temperatures hampered firefighters and several of the fire trucks, which responded to the scene, had frozen water and hoses. It is the state’s first fire death of the year,” McCausland said in the release.
