Feelin' summer

Enjoy it while it's here.

Summer, the great equalizer to one's mood after months of cold, wet and cool weather — and a business's bottom line — has finally arrived and we're loving it.

The Fourth of July weekend — pretty much extended to four days with the holiday on a Thursday — seemed to be busier than Windjammer Days in the region. People and cars were everywhere (hopefully tourist dollars were, too). And the weather — despite the Saturday afternoon and evening rain and thunderstorms — with temperatures reaching the 80s was welcomed.

I know my mood changed during the past week. I felt like getting outside and moving. Enough of staying inside and watching the depressing world events on TV. We are so lucky to live in a state that has "minor" weather events, as compared to California with its earthquakes, Washington, D.C. getting flooded, and Alaska baking (climate change is real, folks).

What's on your list of things to do this summer? As always, getting out on the water a few times is on my list, as well as getting together with family and friends for cookouts, taking a trip to see the Sea Dogs play, watching my granddaughters enjoying their summer activities, and more. I am also trying to teach our mini Australian shepherd how to catch a Frisbee. She'll fetch it and bring it back, but she hasn't attempted to grab it out of the air yet. Practice (and perseverance) makes perfect, they say.

So, as I said at the outset, enjoy it while it's here. Fall winds crank up too soon and we all know what winter does — it makes me miserable.
