First Congo honors 19th century tradition Dec. 29
First Congregational Church of Wiscasset will once again present a service of lessons and carols on Sunday, Dec. 29. The service was composed in 1880 by Edward White Benson, Anglican Bishop of Truro, England for use in Truro Cathedral and later modified for use in King’s College Chapel, Cambridge. Over the years, the service has become a tradition in many congregations around the world at Christmastime.
The service for the first Sunday after Christmas, led by Rev. Josh Fitterling, will feature familiar hymns and scripture readings by members of the congregation chronicling the Christmas story. The service starts at 10 a.m. and is open to all.
The church is on the Wiscasset Common at 28 High St. For more information, call 882-7544, email fccw@myfairpoint.net or visit www.uccwiscasset.org
