Former selectboard chair to run for House

Former Wiscasset Selectboard chair Ed Polewarczyk has thrown his hat into the ring for the Republican nomination in House District 47 which includes Alna, Jefferson, Whitefield and Wiscasset. Polewarczyk, a retired engineer with 34 years’ experience on NASA’s Space Shuttle program and veteran of the US Army Signal Corps, settled in the community after retiring 13 years ago, and immediately fell in love with the area.

“There’s nothing like the Wiscasset area,” he said. “My wife Arlene and I have lived in a lot of places, and this community is one of the best. We have something for everyone and I would be honored to represent the people of District 47 in the Legislature.”

Polewarczyk said that he first went to local meetings out of a concern for a possible development in his neighborhood, which led into him serving on the town’s budget committee, selectboard, and eventually the Lincoln County Budget Committee.

“Local government gives you an opportunity to learn, ask a lot of questions, and be hands on. Being from away, I was surprised people wanted me to serve, but I took the time to listen to people, find out what was what, and represent everyone the best I could. Whether it’s the town office, the State House, or outer space, we need people who will dig in and find solutions to problems by bringing everyone together.”

Polewarczyk said he is running because he is concerned about the future of the communities in his district whether it’s the soaring cost of electricity, inflation, property values, managing state, local, and county budgets, or preserving the Maine way of life.

“I call Maine home because I enjoy living here. Many of my friends and neighbors do too. They want Wiscasset to remain a great place to live, raise a family, work, play, and retire. Electricity costs, the cost of groceries, soaring property values, the strain on local and county budgets, people are concerned about their futures and their families, and they need people with time, energy and dedication to step up, and above all, do no harm.”

Polewarczyk is running as a Maine Clean Election candidate and will be collecting qualifying contributions to become eligible for public campaign financing when he receives at least 60 qualifying contributions from 60 registered voters in District 47.
