Friends of Wiscasset Library plan evening fundraiser
For the second year, the Friends of the Wiscasset Public Library group is planning a fun-filled evening to raise money for the library. The event, on Sept. 20 from 5-7 p.m., will again be held in a large barn at Marianmade Farm, a wedding destination site in Wiscasset that borders the Sheepscot River.
Opus One Big Band, with 18 to 20 musicians, will again perform big band and jazz music by artists such as Glenn Miller, John Coltrane, Wes Montgomery and Duke Ellington, music that gets everyone on their dancing feet.
The band has been playing for more than 20 years. It is currently under the direction of Dale Perkins and includes music educators and performers from across Maine.
In addition to the music, the event includes a cash bar, heavy hors d'oeuvres donated by local restaurants, and a silent auction. Auction items will include a dinner for 10, paintings, a sculpture, a pet portrait, flower arrangements, a delicious homemade cake and homemade scones, Yoga classes, a stay at the Marston House in Wiscasset, and a boat ride on the Sheepscot for two, including picnic lunch.
Marianmade Farm is sponsoring the event along with One Stop Event Rentals of South Portland.
Prior to the event, tickets at $20 per person can be purchased at the Wiscasset Public Library or from committee members (Kate Curran, Wendy Ross Eichler, Judy Flanagan, Sally Gemmill, Tania Hayes, Michelle Peele and Linda Winterberg). Tickets will also be available, at $25 per person, the evening of the event at the entrance to the event site, 155 Federal Street in Wiscasset. All the monies collected will be used to benefit the Wiscasset Public Library.
So mark your calendars, get ready to have some fun, and take home some wonderful auction items while helping the Wiscasset Public library.
