Henry G. Shea Jr.
Henry Gregory Shea Jr, 81, passed away peacefully on Dec. 8, 2025 with his wife by his side. Greg was born in Bronxville, New York on March 31, 1944, the son of H. Gregory Shea Sr. and Evelyn (Wilson) Shea.
He graduated from Storm King School in Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York in 1962, then attended two years at George Washington University before enlisting. He served in the United States Army for four years as a computer programmer in Germany and Vietnam. When he returned, he completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Virginia and then a few years later returned to UVA’s Darden School for his MBA.
On April 6, 1968 he married Joan Jefferson Seelbach at Christ Church in Bronxville. Greg and Joan raised their son, Gregory III, and their daughter, Christine, who brought much joy to their lives. Over the years, Greg worked in multiple locations for Marine Midland Banks, Xerox, and Northern Telecom.
In 1993, Greg and Joan decided to leave the nomadic corporate life and move to their home in Wiscasset where they lived for 32 years before moving to Brunswick. Greg’s last position before retiring in 2006 was with the state of Maine’s Department of Transportation where he was director of Finance and Administration for 11 years.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset and was chair of its trustees for many years.
Greg was an avid boater, who along with Joan, cruised the Northeast Coast from Mystic, Connecticut to the St. John River in New Brunswick. He was a member of the Down East Yacht Club and the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club where he served as Fleet Captain for many years and was a member of its board of directors.
Greg and Joan’s love of being on the water extended to small vessel expedition cruises to remote areas, including Antarctica, South Georgia and the Falkland Islands; Iceland and Greenland; British Columbia and Alaska; as well as the Canadian Maritimes.
Greg was predeceased by his son, Gregory, and is survived by his wife, Joan, of Brunswick and daughter, Christine, of Lewiston.
