He's not going to resign
Dear Editor:
I see a real division in our country between the pro and anti-Trumpers.
Of course they’re diametrically opposed in their opinions of Trump. But it’s more than that. Why are the anti-Trumpers so full of hatred and so public about their hatred, while the pro-Trumpersaren’t hating anyone, and they stay largely out of sight.
I wanted to be part of “No Kings” day in Bath on Oct. 18. Unfortunately, I was on an island in Casco Bay andcouldn’t get back in time. I was saddened, because I had some signs all made up: “Trump Was Right About Everything.”That’s hyperbole, of course, because he hasn’t been right about everything, but mostly I support what he’s been doing.
I’m trying to figure out what the long-term goal of the No Kings group is. I realize a lot of people just like hanging out with their friends on a bridge, but there must be more to it than that.
I guess theirmain goal is to let everyone know they don’t like (some hate) President Trump. Okay so, they’ve achieved that goal. Over and over. We get it. No point in telling us that again and again. So just stay off the bridge and go do something useful.
We know Trump is a man of action.Do they think Trump will say, “Aw shucks, they don’t like me, so I’ll resign.”
I find it curious that the pro Trumpers are mostly hidden, while the anti-Trumpers are gathering and screaming and yelling and making signs and cursing the president.
I have a T-shirt that says “Proud to Be a Deplorable.” When I wear that shirt in public, Ioften getscowls. I smile.A few peoplehave approachedme tentatively and whispered, “I love your shirt,” and walk away quickly.
What I would like to see is the anti-Trumpers takingthe hate out of their messaging.Challenge every move he makes if you want. But ditch the hate. It’swasted energy. It accomplishes nothing. It’s annoying as hell.
Criticize his actions, argue against what he’s doing, disagree all you want. Then come up with a better plan. He’s not going to resign.
