Come hear The Hingham Singers, a Boston-area-based ensemble, perform “The Music of Peter, Paul, and Mary” on Friday, July 19, at First Congregational Church. There is no admission to the concert – donations are accepted with thanks. The 7:30 p.m. performance will include many of your favorite songs from the 1960s, including “If I Had a Hammer,” “Blowin’ in the Wind,”  “The Times They Are A-Changin’,”  “This Land Is Your Land,” and many others.

In addition, come lift your voices with the group in special sing-a-longs on such well-known songs as “Where Have All the Flowers Gone,” “Puff the Magic Dragon,” and “Five Hundred Miles.” The group of 11 singers is accompanied by two accomplished guitarists, Steve Waynen and Paul Cappers, and features several trio performances that will transport you back to the Newport Folk Festival in 1965, or to other venues where you may have shared in the folk music tradition.

Soloist Jan Heuman has performed with the acclaimed Dale Warland Singers. Guitarist Steve Waynen has been in many bands over the years, most recently as lead singer and guitarist with The Bobby O’Donnell Band. Music Director Paul Sappers’ music ensembles have performed in Europe on many tours. His Youth Chorale at the University of Hartford performed with the Hartford Symphony under the baton of Skitch Henderson. He has sung and played in a number of folk groups over the course of his career at venues as diverse as Camden Harbour Inn and Wethersfield (CT) Country Club. One of his earliest music teaching positions was a highly enjoyable stint as vocal teacher in nearby Rockland, where he had the pleasure of teaching and playing guitar with well-known Maine musician Robbie Coffin.
