Historic New England’s jewelry lecture is Sept. 13
New Englanders from the 18th century to today mark their important moments and memories of love and life with jewelry.
Join Wiscasset Site Manager Peggy Konitzky on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 3 p.m. in the Nickels-Sortwell House barn for an illustrated lecture that tells the stories behind some pieces of Historic New England's extensive jewelry collection.
Advance registration is suggested. Admission is $5 for members of Historic New England, $10 for nonmembers. To reserve a place, call 207-882-7169 or visit www.historicnewengland.org. Nickels-Sortwell House is located at 121 Main Street, Wiscasset. The barn entrance is on Federal Street.
Jeweled gifts such as watches, rings, bracelets, and cuff links mark major life transitions. They help men and women tell stories about themselves and their families as those gifts become treasured memories.
“Jewelry reflects all the facets of history: international politics and economics, historical, archaeological and mineral discoveries, innovations in technology, patterns of immigration and the ever-changing styles of art and fashion. Yet it’s the small details, the personal histories that make it so compelling,” said Konitzky.
