Howard B. Gordon (aka “H-man”), accomplished and admired Boothbay personality, died February 5, 2013, at home in Bala Cynwyd, Pa., surrounded by his loving family.

He was born January 2, 1946, in Washington, D.C., to Shirley and Manuel Gordon, both now deceased.

Howard spent as much time as possible in East Boothbay with his sister, Myrna Snider Thomas and brother-in-law Martin Thomas. He was also joined in Maine by his sister, Dobbie Kristoff and many other extended family members. He cherished his Maine time.

Howard was quite a well known little guy in Boothbay, often seen at the YMCA training with Mary Baudo. He regularly showed up at musical venues with harmonica in hand, happy to join in and perform. Howard and Connie Colby of Southport also spent a lot of time on the road in the area, running errands and creating havoc.

Some of Howard's greatest personal achievements came as a devoted participant at Special Olympics events, helping with fund raising and competing both locally and nationally. He won five medals at the 1993 Pennsylvania Special Olympic finals held at Penn State University in State College, Pa.

Howard lead a very active life. In addition to his many accomplishments here in Maine, he was towel boy for the Philadelphia Eagles football team, and active with the Philadelphia Flyers hockey team. He sailed throughout much of the world with his sister Myrna, loved to paint, box, and was a dancing machine. His extraordinary kindness, mischievous sense of humor and love of humankind will be sorely missed.

Contributions in Howard's memory may be made to Boothbay Special Olympics/Toby LeConte, c/o BRES, 238 Townsend Ave., Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538. A gathering in Howard's honor is planned for this summer's July 4th holiday weekend. Details will be announced at a later date.
