It takes a village to run a Village: Volunteers wanted
Would you like to learn something new? Share your passion for history with others? Or perhaps meet some new friends? These are just three of the many reasons people of all ages volunteer.
This summer we'll be providing new special events, amenities and services to visitors and need your help to make a visit to the Boothbay Railway Village magical. If you have a few hours just once a week or twice a month we want to hear from you.
From planning special events to giving tours of the antique auto exhibit or greeting guests on the Freeport Station platform to planting and taking care of our window boxes and gardens there is something here for most anyone's interest and skills. We provide training and great rewards ... including thousands of smiles!
Our Volunteer Task Force has been hard at work developing a new volunteer application, handbook and job descriptions. We're redecorating and furnishing the first floor space below the Museum Administrative offices to become a Volunteer Center where you'll be able to securely lock-up your purse, coat and other belongings while on the grounds. It will also be a place where we can offer Volunteer Orientation Trainings and post our schedules and other notices.
Please join us on Tuesday, May 20 from 3 to 7 p.m. in the 1847 Boothbay Town Hall for a Volunteer Open House. There will be tours, refreshments and other surprises along with the opportunity to talk with peers about helping the Museum achieve its goals of education and preservation. If you can’t make it to the open house give us a call 207-633-4727 or email Margaret Hoffman at margaret@railwayvillage.org to learn how you can help us make history move for our visitors.
Special thanks to members of our Volunteer Task Force who met once, and sometimes twice or three times a week, this winter and spring to make your experiences with us even richer and more fulfilling. They are Kevin Bowler, Mark Keegan, Sarah Strouss, Becky Welsh, George Sefick and Sue Sefick.
The Boothbay Railway Village is located at 586 Wiscasset Road, Route 27 in Boothbay.
