Joan Stickney, a former summer resident at Ocean Point, died in Portimao, Portugal October 30, 2012.

Joan had spent summers with her parents, George and Charlotte Stickney, at her grandmother Catherine Mower's cottage for many childhood and young adult summers.

She attended art school in Boston before being employed at an art school in Cambridge, Mass. She spent some vacations on the Algarve in Portugal before becoming sole owner of the Ocean Point cottage which she sold in 1975. At about that time Joan began to spend longer periods of time in Portimao.

She was a lover of animals and spent sometime as a volunteer at a charity shop for animals in Alvor. At this time no living relatives are known, but Joan had many friends both here in the U.S. and in Portugal.
