Saturday, Aug. 15, from 10 to 11 a.m., Lincoln County Indivisible (LCI), Audacity CAT (Rockland), and Indivisible Waldo County are holding coordinated “By Land or by Sea Vigils.”

The vigils will bring attention to Chief Justice John Roberts' transformation of the Supreme Court. Roberts, who owns summer homes on Hupper Island, off Port Clyde, and is perhaps the most powerful person in the country who summers in Maine, presides over the most unpopular Supreme Court in modern history. The Roberts Court has:

--Given President Trump immunity for official acts, setting him above the law

--Overturned the right of a woman to control her own body

--Allowed racial profiling in the ICE round up of our immigrant community

--Prohibited medical providers from prescribing gender-affirming care

--Gutted the Voting Rights Act, particularly for black, indigenous and people of color

--Loosened gun regulation

--Reduced workers’ rights to organize

--Targeted environmental protection

The “By Land or By Sea Vigils” will remind the Midcoast community of the ways the Roberts Court has repeatedly used its power to undermine the rule of law, erode judicial standards, target immigrants, harm workers, set back women's rights, and place President Trump above the law.

Sets of “Signs of Fascism” and “Signs of Democracy” will be available in Wiscasset, Thomaston and Lincolnville Beach. All concerned citizens are encouraged to bring friends and join a vigil. To join the flotilla at Port Clyde, bring your own watercraft and personal flotation device.

With the elevation of President Trump’s personal attorney, Todd Blanche, to Attorney General, it is more important than ever for the Supreme Court to protect the Constitution and Rule of Law instead of acting as an enabler for President Trump. Come join us!
