Susan Fletcher Bradley of Boothbay Harbor died peacefully in the company of her four children at her home on Aug. 3. She was 90.

Sue was born on Oct. 11, 1935, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Boynton Jones Fletcher and Ruth Pearson Fletcher. She grew up in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, and enjoyed being a majorette in the Ken High marching band and hunting for antiques with her mother.

Sue earned a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University, where she met her husband of 64 years, Perry Edward Bradley. He was her brother Charlie’s freshman-year roommate. Sue and Perry married on Nov. 15, 1958. Perry died in 2022.

Sue and Perry moved across the country and to Europe as his career with Procter & Gamble took the family to Summit, New Jersey; Prairie Village, Kansas; Cincinnati, Ohio; Modesto, California; Cape Girardeau, Missouri; and Bonn, Germany, before they returned to Cincinnati in 1978. In 1993, they retired to Freeport, Maine, and in 2020, they moved to St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor.

Everywhere they went, Sue created beautiful homes using her flair for design, which she developed as a college student during a summer program at the Rhode Island School of Design. Her love of music gave her a natural ear for language that she used to learn German and, much later, win sing-along contests at St. Andrews Village. She was known for her enthusiasm for celebrations and events and hosted hundreds of house guests over her lifetime.

Sue’s family has deep roots in Boothbay Harbor. Her grandparents, Charles and Anna May Fletcher of Melrose, Massachusetts, helped to establish the community of Bayville in 1891. Sue and her brother, who is 92, shared The Ledge, a summer home that is now welcoming the sixth generation of their families.

Sue was a member of the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club and served on the board of trustees of the Boothbay Region YMCA. She generously supported the Harbor Theater and other local nonprofit organizations.

Sue is survived by her siblings Charles P. Fletcher and Molly Abt; her children Ann Bradley of Bethesda, Maryland (James Olson); Molly LaCroix of Bend, Oregon (Robert); Kate Geiselman of Dayton, Ohio (Eric); and Perry Bradley of Cincinnati, Ohio (Dana); as well as 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Boothbay Region YMCA in her memory.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 13 at the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor. At a later date, she will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Bradley family plot at Elmwood Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee.
