Larson plans to resign from website committee
A central figure on the town of Edgecomb’s Website Committee plans to resign. Jarryl Larson has served on the six-month old committee since its inception. Larson informed the planning board on Nov. 5 that she planned on submitting her resignation at the next selectmen’s meeting.
The Website Committee began with two members in June. Larson along with Planning Board member David Nutt were the original members. Selectmen appointed a third member, Carol Leone, in July. But Larson was the most consistent member involved in the research for developing a new, town-owned website.
Larson indicated it was difficult to make decisions regarding the website proposal without more input from the other members.
“In my mind the selectmen have expanded the assignment beyond what we started with,” Larson said. “So my perspective is I’m no longer going to serve because there is no committee. But I’m here willing to help the planning board in making your website what you want it to look like. ”
She was the only committee member who met with selectmen on Oct. 26. The selectmen requested the committee provide information about the site’s potential vendors, cost, and functionality during the Nov. 9 or 23 board meeting.
Larson plans on meeting with selectmen on Nov. 9, but won’t be giving a report. She believes the committee’s responsibilities are too much for one person. Larson wanted to speak with Nutt following the planning board meeting, but he was absent.
“I don’t know who is writing the report. I wanted to speak with David, but he’s not here,” Larson said.
She did provide the planning board with a design proposal for its web page. Larson and Nutt have worked with the planning board on a new town website proposal for over a year. Larson described the page “as not fancy,” but provided visitors with basic information. The proposed page includes a greeting, members’ names and email addresses, agenda and minutes, schedules, and links to other sites.
Planning Board Chairman Jack French complimented Larson for her presentation.
“This makes a lot of sense to me. This is a great start. And I think we’re headed in the right direction,” he said.
Larson also offered the planning board use of a domain name purchased by her and husband Byron Johnson.
The new web page will provide updated information to the public such as the recently revised land use ordinances, according to Larson.
“If you’re comfortable with the wording we can go ahead and submit it on a live page,” she said.
In other action, the planning board heard from a U.S. Route 1 business owner about his plan to add a storage unit on the property. Ben Ellinwood, owner of Ellinwood Foundations, informed the board of his intent to build a 3,000-square-foot, climate-controlled commercial storage facility.
Ellinwood characterized his venture as trying to attract the best clientèle.
“It will be 50 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter and 70 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer. I know clients complain about condensation and mold. So I’m trying to be different than the average storage place,” he said.
Ellinwood plans on submitting formal plans next spring.
The planning board will meet next at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19 in the municipal room.
