Wiscasset Elementary School first grade teacher Trae Stover said State Rep. Allison Hepler, D - Woolwich, visited the class Oct. 19 to deliver a legislative sentiment for Stover’s being named Lincoln County teacher of the year in May. Hepler also read to the class and talked about her job, Stover said via email later.

“She read ‘Duck For President’ and an ensuing discussion led to a plan to hold a classroom election on Election Day to elect a Classroom Stuffy President,” Stover told Wiscasset Newspaper. “An amazing opportunity for true authentic learning!
“I will be preparing a ballot box (and) a ballot, and students will be doing persuasive writing to encourage electing the candidate of their choice!
“Huge thanks to Allison Hepler for taking the time to visit and creating an authentic opportunity for learning about the election process! And the certificate is quite awesome as well!

In a separate email, Hepler called the visit “so fun” and Stover’s students “interesting and funny and excited about all kinds of things.” Hepler also asked to hear the outcome of the vote for Stuffy President. It will be held Election Day, Nov. 8, Stover said.
