Lend your voice to a choir of 65
A new semester is about to begin for Classic Harmony. The local singing group is geared toward people aged 55 and up, but anyone is welcome. Music is chosen from a wide variety of styles including pop and Broadway tunes, folk songs and familiar selections from the Great American Songbook. All of the music choices showcase the incomparable Sean Fleming at the piano.
The goal is to keep voices energized and healthy while enjoying a positive social atmosphere. The group has grown to about 65 singers. “We have music-readers, part-singers, and people who just want to sing the melody,” said Classic Harmony's Music Director Beth Preston. “We don’t worry about making mistakes because the most important thing is to have fun.”
Classic Harmony meets at The Second Congregational Church Fellowship Hall, 51 Main St. in Newcastle on Tuesdays from 2 to 3 p.m. beginning Feb. 10. Dues are just $10 per semester to offset the cost of music and materials. No need to sign up in advance. Just come and join the fun. Classic Harmony is part of the Tapestry Singers organization.
