Lincoln County Sheriff's Office: 8 accidents involving deer
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to 309 calls for service for the period of Sept. 30 to Oct. 7. Year to date, LCSO has responded to 11,285 calls for service.
Summonses
Avery J. Stewart, 24, of Bath was issued a summons Oct. 4 for Failure to Report a Motor Vehicle Crash, on Middle Road, Dresden, by Sgt. Scott Hayden.
Kyle D. Austin, 25, of Jefferson was issued a summons Oct. 4 for Operating while License Suspended or Revoked, on Rockland Road, Jefferson, by Deputy Samuel Alexander.
Robert F. McKinney Jr., 30, of Old Town was issued a summons Oct. 5 for Assault on an Officer, at Two Bridges Regional Jail, Wiscasset, by Deputy Joseph Booth.
Arrests
Matthew Miete, 35, of Whitefield was arrested Oct. 3 on a Belfast Police Department warrant for Aggravated Domestic Violence Assault; Domestic Violence Assault, Domestic Violence Terrorizing and Unlawful Sexual Touching, on Mills Road, Whitefield, by Detective Jared Mitkus, who was assisted by Detective Matthew Ryan.
Kathryn E. Archer, 30, of Jefferson was arrested Oct. 4 for Domestic Violence Assault, on Main Street, Newcastle, by Deputy Joseph Booth.
Accidents
On Sept. 30, an accident occurred on US Route 1 in Nobleboro involving Patti J. Cousens, 73, of Gardiner and Zachary E. Rogachoff, 27, of Washington. Ms. Cousens was operating her 2018 Mazda 3 southbound when a deer entered the roadway, causing her to slow down. Mr. Rogachoff was operating his 2025 Jeep Compass behind Cousens’ vehicle, traveling in the same direction. Mr. Rogachoff turned into the breakdown lane to try and avoid colliding with Cousens’ vehicle and as a result, he sideswiped it. Deputy Jerold Winslow was the investigating officer.
On Sept. 30, an accident occurred on Patricktown Road in Somerville involving Evan P. Morrison, 46, of Somerville. Mr. Morrison was operating his 2024 Toyota Tundra westbound when a deer entered the roadway and collided with his vehicle. Deputy Jerold Winslow was the investigating officer.
On Oct. 1, an accident occurred on River Road in Newcastle involving Jenna Leeman, 24, of Newcastle. Ms. Leeman was operating her 2015 Subaru Crosstrek northbound when suddenly a deer entered the roadway and was struck, causing visible damage to the front bumper, quarter panel and hood. Deputy Brandon Maciuba was the investigating officer.
On Oct. 2, an accident occurred on Hinks Road in Jefferson involving Colin A. Hall, 57, of Jefferson. Mr. Hall was operating his 2014 Toyota Tundra southbound when a deer ran into the roadway in front of him and was struck, causing front end damage. Sgt. Scott Hayden was the investigating officer.
On Oct. 2, an accident occurred on South Clary Road in Jefferson involving Samantha J. Crawford, 40, of Windsor. Ms. Crawford was operating her 2019 Toyota Sienna southbound when a deer ran out in front of her and was struck, causing front driver’s corner and side damage to her vehicle. Deputy Jeffrey Rogers was the investigating officer.
On Oct. 2, an accident occurred on Waldoboro Road in Jefferson involving Ronald D. Moody, 90, of Litchfield. Mr. Moody was operating his 2022 Buick Encore eastbound when a deer entered the road and was struck, causing damage to the front driver’s corner of his vehicle. Deputy Caleb Poirier was the investigating officer.
On Oct. 2, an accident occurred on Heath Road in Bremen involving Carol A. Ransom, 78, of Bremen. Ms. Ransom was operating her 2015 Lexus RX eastbound when a deer suddenly ran into the roadway, causing Ms. Ransom to brake, at which point the deer ran into the front driver’s corner of her vehicle. As a result, her vehicle suffered visible damage to the front driver’s corner but was still operable. Deputy Brandon Maciuba was the investigating officer.
On Oct. 3, an accident occurred on West Alna Road in Alna involving Nathaniel Small, 35, of Alna. Mr. Small was operating his 2007 Volkswagen Jetta southbound, at which point he noticed a deer in the roadway. Mr. Small did not have time to stop or avoid the deer and as a result, the deer collided with his vehicle, causing damage to the front driver’s side corner, door, vehicle hood and wheel well, but was still operable. Deputy Brandon Maciuba was the investigating officer.
On Oct. 4, an accident occurred on Middle Road in Dresden involving Avery J. Stewart, 24, of Bath. Mr. Stewart was operating his 2020 Toyota Prius southbound when he went off the roadway on the right, came back onto the roadway, then off the roadway on the left. His vehicle went back onto the roadway and then off the roadway on the right, while skidding. As a result, his vehicle crashed into some trees in the ditch. Sgt. Scott Hayden was the investigating officer.
