A Little Free Library opens on Westport Island
The Robert M. MacNamara Foundation has opened a “Little Free Library” on Westport Island.
Designed after the concept started by Todd Bol of Hudson, Wisconsin in 2009, residents and visitors are invited to take a book to enjoy, then either return it or pass it on.
Besides popular fiction, non-fiction and classics, artists while in residence at the Foundation wrote some of the titles. Books by MacNamara resident’s include "Last Flight Out" by Phyllis A. Langston, "The Ranch That Was Us" by Becky Crouch Patterson with a forward by Willie Nelson, "Monkey King" and "Mambo Peligroso" by Patricia Chao, "The Night Counter" by Alia Yunis, "Goldbeater’s Skin" and "Southern Workers and the Search for Community" by G. C. Waldrep III, "The Book of the Unknown" by Jonathon Keats, and "The Woman Behind the New Deal" by Kirstin Downey.
The Robert M. MacNamara Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. Established in 1987, the Foundation’s mission is to support educational, charitable and scientific causes. In addition, the residency program hosts professional level artists from around the world working in a variety of mediums.
The library is located at the end of the Foundation’s driveway at 241 East Shore Road. It will be open daily through the fall.
